The sights and sounds of Edinburgh during festival season is truly spectacular. Every corner we turned, bagpipes would be playing on the streets or by groups in outdoor pubs. My sister and I spent all of day two in Scotland meandering the streets, shopping, climbing Calton Hill for more views of the city, drinking kir royale in the Signet Library, and having dinner and more beer at Dirty Dick’s.
The highlight of our day was the Military Tattoo festival. When we first decided that we wanted to go to Scotland in August, our tour operator quickly suggested we get tickets as soon as possible for the highly popular military tattoo. After doing some research and seeing pictures on the event, I knew I HAD to go. Bagpipes, military marching, music….why not take the opportunity to see an event that people fly from all around the world to attend?
The military tattoo took place inside Edinburgh castle, which was just a short walk from our hotel. We joined the herds of people at the entrance and noted all of the military personnel standing as guards. I had no idea what to expect but was enthralled at the performances. The choreography and precision of each movement combined with the beautiful music from groups all around the world was a sight to behold. This was a magnificent way to end the first leg of our visit in Scotland.
